Falls Church resident Brian Ramos, 21, put police through their paces after a scary scene played out inside an apartment and spilled outside to the rooftop after he killed a cat and set a fire, police say.
According to police, at around 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, officers were called to the 6000 block of Bellview Drive when two people were abducted by a roommate, one of whom was assaulted with a baseball bat.
The two were able to escape and called the department, launching the near 24-hour barricade.
Inside the apartment, Ramos was alone with his cat and armed with a knife, which he used to make threats while refusing to come outside.
During the negotiations, some nearby apartment buildings were evacuated as a precaution as police continued attempting to coax the man out of the home unsuccessfully, officials noted.
At around 12:20 a.m., officers caught Ramos starting a fire in the apartment, and he proceeded to fatally harm the cat, they say, he then left the apartment and climbed on to the roof.
Twenty-one hours after the whole ordeal began, Ramos relented and climbed down a ladder that was provided by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue crews.
He was taken into custody without further incident and taken to an area hospital to be evaluated.
Ramos was arrested and charged with two counts each of abduction and assault. Charges are pending in regards to the death of the cat and the arson.
He is being held without bond.
